What Are You Waiting For? Sister Suni Roy, Sharjah

What Are You Waiting For?

All of us, at different moments in life, look forward to something exciting. It may be an important family event that is about to take place or a holiday trip that we have been planning for a long time. The anticipation fills our hearts with excitement as we wait for the day to arrive. When what we long for finally happens, our hearts are filled with joy.

But there is another kind of waiting that the world is yet to witness — a moment that will bring exceeding great joy to the children of God.

In the Gospel of Gospel of Luke 23:50–51, we read about Joseph of Arimathea, a man described as good and righteous. What made him different from many others was what he was waiting for — he was waiting for the Kingdom of God.

The works and message of Jesus Christ touched his heart, and Joseph believed in Him for who He truly was. The Bible says he did not agree with their decision to condemn Jesus. Instead of joining in their injustice, he quietly distanced himself from it.

Joseph’s expectation of the Kingdom of God gave him remarkable courage. He boldly went to Pontius Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus Christ. That was indeed a courageous step. Joseph did not merely do his best — he gave his very best by placing the body of Jesus in his own new tomb, cut out of the rock, which became the place from which Jesus rose again on the third day. What a remarkable privilege!

Today, we too look forward to many things in life — celebrations, achievements, and recognition. While these things are meaningful, are we also waiting in expectation for the glorious day of Christ’s return?

When we truly wait for Jesus Christ, our lives begin to change. Like Joseph, we begin to live upright lives. We learn to say no to temptation and boldly reflect His love and truth through our words and actions.

The way we wait reveals what we truly value. Joseph of Arimathea waited for the Kingdom of God, and that hope shaped his life, his choices, and his courage.

Are we truly waiting for the glorious return of Jesus Christ?

Stay blessed
