ALL THAT, AND CHRIST TOO

Charles Spurgeon once shared the story of a poor elderly woman who lived in deep poverty. One day, she sat at her table with nothing but a crust of bread and a cup of water. Yet, instead of complaining, she lifted her hands in praise and joyfully exclaimed:

“What! Bread, water—and Christ too?”

What a beautiful picture of true blessedness!

True joy comes from knowing that Christ is with us—not only in times of abundance, but also in seasons of scarcity. He is present in well-being as well as in suffering. Each time we draw strength from the Lord, our faith becomes more deeply rooted and firmly grounded.

In Acts 16:16–40, Paul and Silas, beaten and chained in prison, prayed and sang hymns at midnight. Choosing to praise God in such circumstances was not easy. Their worship was not an escape from pain, but a joyful expression of their love for Christ, flowing from the depths of their hearts. Instead of being overcome by suffering, they experienced joy, and their faith grew stronger.

It was the Lord’s plan not only to hear their prayers and deliver them from prison, but also to bring salvation to the jailer and his household. Suddenly, an earthquake shook the prison, opening the doors and breaking the chains. The jailer, about to take his own life, encountered God and gave his heart to the Lord. He was filled with joy, along with his entire household. In time, Paul and Silas were set free.

For a child of God, the greatest blessing is having Christ in every circumstance. For Paul and Silas, Christ was their joy.

The woman’s joyful cry—“All that, and Christ too!”—reminds us that the presence of the Savior transforms even the simplest provision and the hardest trials into moments filled with joy.

Remember, when Christ is in your situation, you already have everything you need.

So why not declare with joy and confidence:

“All that—and Christ too!”
