STIR UP THE GIFT OF GOD

Have you ever stepped into a responsibility with joy, confidence, and excitement, only to find that after a few steps, the zeal begins to fade? Questions start to rise in our hearts:“Did God really speak to me?”“Am I truly the one called for this assignment?”

This experience is not strange. The journey of faith is not only about beginning well; it is about enduring faithfully when the passion inside us seems to fade.

We see this very struggle in the life of Timothy, the young servant of God mentored by Apostle Paul. A man of faith, he was entrusted with leadership in the church at Ephesus. Yet Scripture shows that he wrestled with fear and timidity.

As Paul sat imprisoned, nearing the end of his earthly race, he wrote to Timothy, his true son in the faith, saying:

“THEREFORE I REMIND YOU TO STIR UP THE GIFT OF GOD WHICH IS IN YOU THROUGH THE LAYING ON OF MY HANDS.” (2 TIMOTHY 1:6 NKJV)

Paul exhorted Timothy to remain steadfast in the gospel, to guard the sacred trust entrusted to him, to persevere in sound doctrine, to preach the Word boldly, and, if necessary, to suffer for the sake of Christ. He strengthened Timothy’s heart with this powerful reminder:

“FOR GOD HAS NOT GIVEN US A SPIRIT OF FEAR, BUT OF POWER AND OF LOVE AND OF A SOUND MIND.” (2 TIMOTHY 1:7 NKJV)

This means God does not want us to live in fear.

Fear is not only being scared; it is also a lack of confidence and a tendency to hold back from using the gifts God has given us. Timothy struggled with this, but Paul encouraged him to be bold and strong in his calling.

We can stir up our gifts through prayer, through the Word, and through faithful service to the Lord. When your passion feels weak and fear begins to whisper lies to your soul, remember this apostolic charge:

STIR UP THE GIFT OF GOD THAT IS WITHIN YOU.

Do not allow neglect, discouragement, or intimidation to quench what God has ignited in you. Instead, through the power of the Holy Spirit, the love of God, and a sound mind, let the gifts God has given you be stirred afresh. As Paul also reminded Timothy:

“YOU THEREFORE, MY SON, BE STRONG IN THE GRACE THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS.”

2 TIMOTHY 2:1 NKJV
