Empty to Overflow . Sister Suni Roy, Sharjah

There is nothing in us that makes us worthy before Jesus Christ, no strength, no qualification, no merit of our own. Yet, in His grace, He chooses us and brings us into the abundance of His promises. What we could never produce in our emptiness, He releases by His power. This is not earned, it is a privilege given to the children of God.

In Luke 5:1 to 11, we see not just a miraculous catch of fish, but a life lifted from emptiness into abundance, and a heart transformed for the Kingdom of God.

Jesus stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, surrounded by a crowd eager to hear Him. Peter and the other disciples had finished a long, exhausting, and fruitless night of fishing. Their nets were empty, their strength drained, and their efforts had failed. As they were washing their nets and preparing to leave, Jesus stepped into Peter’s boat and used it to speak to the people.

After He finished teaching, Jesus gave Peter an unexpected instruction:“Go deeper and let down your nets for a catch.”

By human reasoning, it made no sense. Peter was experienced. He knew the waters, the timing, and the reality that they had caught nothing all night. Yet, something within him chose to trust beyond logic.

In simple obedience, he let down the nets.

The result was overwhelming. The nets filled with such a great number of fish that they began to break, and the boats were filled to the point of sinking. What Peter could not achieve through a whole night of effort, Jesus accomplished in a moment.

Yet the greater miracle was not in the nets, but in Peter’s heart.

He did not get too excited. He did not run to count the fish or celebrate the abundance. Instead, his eyes turned to Jesus. In that moment, standing before the miracle, Peter became aware of his own unworthiness, his empty, ordinary life laid bare before a holy God.

He fell at Jesus’ feet and said,“Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man” (Luke 5:8).

Then came the prophetic word that changed his life forever:“From now on, you will catch men” (Luke 5:10).

What a transformation, from empty nets to abundance and overflow, from a fisherman to a fisher of men.

It is true that in moments of desperation, God moves powerfully in our lives. Yet, there is a danger we often overlook. We can become so focused on the miracle that we fail to examine the condition of our hearts.

Every blessing is a call to surrender.Every miracle is a reminder that it is not our effort, but His grace at work in us.

A miracle is indeed a time to rejoice in the Lord. But more than that, as we see in Peter’s life, it is also a moment to recognize our true condition and fall at the feet of Jesus. It is in that place of surrender that His grace works most deeply, the grace that saves, restores, and transforms.

Let us not be drawn merely to miracles and abundance, but to Jesus Christ Himself. For He does not just fill your nets, He transforms your heart.

Stay blessed .
